The residents are being represented by Allen Moyo.

Led by Tressie Taruvinga the Mbare flood flash victims said on the 26th of December last year flash floods occurred as a result of negligent and reckless construction of a drainage system and building of Harare Sunshine City Bazaar Mall along Simon Mazorodze road.

Moyo said that the original drainage system and lines were tempered with by the contractor and the Harare City Council approved the building without diligent checks as should be the case.

“As a result of the above said oversight negligent and recklessness on your part, on the said date heavy rains poured leading to the drainage system to clear water and subsequently water to congest as it could flow.

“Resultantly water levels rose as floods ensued along Dumbujena. Mbirimi, Mwamuka and Chinamhora Streets where our clients resides and water flowed into our clients’ residence until it was waist level and in the process destroyed and swept away an assortment of valuable properties.

Moyo said the City Council has to pay the above amount as a matter of urgency in the next three days.
