The Constitutional Court Wednesday threw out a bond note court challenge by Zimbabwe People First leader Joice Mujuru who was challenging the constitutionality of Government’s decision to introduce bond notes Mujuru was questioning the legality of Bond notes which are expected to be released next month.
The ConCourt directed Mujuru to wait until the Bond notes are introduced for her to point out the alleged illegalities and violations of the constitution by the legal framework to be used in releasing the notes. Chief Justice Godfrey Chidyausiku, sitting with eight other judges of the apex court, described the politician’s contestation as premature and speculative. Advocate Nyandoro said the reasoning of the court is that we should wait for the introduction of bond notes and see if the introduction has not complied with the law that’s when they can approach the court. “We are unhappy with such reasoning given the pronouncement of the introduction by government. “We therefore await their introduction and then we take up our fight but unfortunately the damage would have happened.” The Zanu pf led government through the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) plans to introduce Bond notes in $2 and $5 denominations next month.

Dr Mujuru listed President Mugabe, Finance and Economic Development Minister Patrick Chinamasa, Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Governor Dr John Mangudya and Attorney-General Advocate Prince Machaya as respondents.
