The National University of Science and Technology (NUST) in Bulawayo will this week host the 5th Edition of the Research and Intellectual Output Science, Engineering & Technology (RIO – SET). RIO-SET aims to harness research and intellectual work by Zimbabweans both at home and in Diaspora for national development. RIO – SET chairperson, Prof Christopher Chetsanga said this annual intellectual showcase provides a platform for sharing knowledge, networking and collaborating by various stakeholders in education, government and state agencies, strategic regional and global bodies. “This year’s edition will be the best in years since we got the largest submission of research papers from universities and colleges. “It’s much higher than we have received in any other year in the past. It’s a testimony of the great interest and enthusiasm academics are having for the expo. The Expo will take place from August 31st to 2nd September. It will run under the theme, ‘Growing the Zimbabwean Economy through Innovation,’ “This year’s theme is quite timely for Zimbabwe especially now when the country is going through a rough economic patch and is looking for solutions,” Prof Chetsanga. “It’s a critical platform to help showcase what our colleges and universities are doing to come up with innovative products that can contribute to improving the quality of life of the people, reduce poverty and enhance livelihoods.”
