President Robert Mugabe’s son-in- law Simba Chikore has been appointed chief operating officer at the countries national airliner Air Zimbabwe with immediate effect.
Simba is now second in line of command at the airliner.
This was confirmed by Air Zimbabwe board directors’ chairperson Chipo Dyanda.
“Yes, thank you I have to go for a meeting,” Dyanda said.
The appointment of Mugabe’s son-in-law follows the appointment of the late vice president Simon Muzenda’s son as chief executive officer Ripton Muzenda in August.
Ripton is a qualified pilot.
However, little is known about Bona’s husband, Simba apart from reports from State media saying he once worked as a pilot for Qatar Airways.
Sometime in 2014 South Africa’s Independent Newspapers reported that both Emirates and Qatar airlines denied Chikore worked for them.
The two are expected to revive the fortunes of the national airliner which is suffering from over $300 million debt.
The current fleet includes Boeing 737-200 Advance, Boeing 767-200ER and Airbus A320-200
Once one of the best airlines in the Southern African skies, the airline suffered and was downgraded due to gross mismanagement and political interference.
